Vice President of Vietnam begins visit to Cuba

Photo: PLHavana, July 8.- The Vice President of Vietnam, Dang Thin Ngoc Thinh, today begins an official visit to Cuba that will last until July 11.
The stay in the Caribbean island responds to an invitation from his Cuban counterpart, Salvador Valdés Mesa, with whom he will meet in the afternoon on Monday to discuss the strengthening of the historic ties of cooperation and friendship between both nations.
In addition, Ngoc Thinh will be heading today to the Mariel Special Development Zone, in the west of the country, where the Asian country concessionaire Vimariel operates, in charge of the construction of an industrial park in the area.
Similarly, the visitor will pay homage to the National Hero of Cuba, José Martí, in the statue of the Apostle located in the Plaza de la Revolución in Havana and will also place a wreath on the monument to former President Ho Chi Minh in a park of the Cuban capital.
For tomorrow, the participation of the representative of the government of Hanoi in the inauguration of the day of Vietnamese culture in Cuba is scheduled.
The presence of Ngoc Thinh in the Island gives continuity to the frequent exchanges of high level delegations between the two countries in recent times.
In March 2018, the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and today president of that country, Nguyen Phu Trong, visited the Caribbean country and eight months later, in November, the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, traveled to the nation IndoChina.
Then, in May of this 2019, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, Pham Binh Minh, reaffirmed in Havana the historical ties of brotherhood and trust between both peoples.
Cuba was the first country in Latin America to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam, on December 2, 1960, and the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, the only statesman who visited the Southeast-Asian nation in the midst of war, in September 1973. (PL)
