Photo: ACNHavana, July 12. - With an even greater commitment from friends of 13 European nations against the economic blockade of the United States to Cuba, ended this Thursday in the solidarity camp in Caimito, Artemisa, a workshop that delved into the negative impact of that genocidal policy in the daily life of Cubans.

With the participation of the brigadistas of 49 Solitary Contingent José Martí, representatives of the sectors of health, culture, sports, agri-food production and education, explained the obstacles to development imposed by the illegal economic, commercial and financial siege, as well as the resistance of the town for 60 years to such barbaric aggression.

The objective of the movement of solidarity with Cuba continues to spread and create awareness in the world to demand the lifting of the absurd and irrational blockade was highlighted in the meeting, chaired by Noemí Rabaza Fernández, first vice president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples ( ICAP).

The internationalist doctor Enmanuel Vigil Fonseca, the young artist Ana Margarita Morejón, Jorge Pavel Pino, of the sports sector, Dayron Silva, cooperative member of Güira de Melena, and Ileana Mesa, of the educational system also participated.

According to the ICAP website, all agreed that the blockade prevents access to medicines, equipment, supplies and advanced technologies in the United States, Cuba being forced to go to distant markets that multiply the costs, in addition to the existence of an exacerbated financial persecution against the Antillean nation, all of which causes limitations to the development and deprivation of the population.

However, they reiterated that in spite of the great obstacles Cubans face in all sectors, the economic siege has not prevented, with enormous efforts, the country present internationally recognized social achievements.

How much more would we have achieved without blocking? It was the question reiterated by the speakers at the workshop, who called on European friends to divulge the reality of Cuba and the damage caused by the inhuman US policy, assuring that the people will continue to resist in defense of their sovereignty.

The words of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro were remembered: the blockade is an economic war against Cuba; it is the tenacious, constant persecution of any economic management of Cuba anywhere in the world, the United States actively works to pressure any country that wants to trade with Cuba.

The 49th European solidarity brigade with Cuba is made up of 53 friends who since June 30 have stayed in the Julio Antonio Mella camp in Caimito. They have developed a program that included the panel Solidarity in defense of just causes until July 21st. and peace, with the participation of diplomats and representatives of independence movements, as well as exchanges with the population and visits to Artemisa, Matanzas and Havana.  (ACN)
