U.S. senators reject Trump administration's reduction of commercial flights to Cuba

Photo: RHCWashington, November 5.- Eleven U.S. Democratic senators opposed to their country's policies against Cuba, sent a letter to the Trump administration to reject the new restrictions imposed on flights to the island.
In the letter, sent to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, members of the Senate warned that the decision to suspend commercial air travel to nine international airports in the Caribbean country "is another step backward for the people of Cuba and the United States.”
According to senators, the Trump administration's approach to the Caribbean nation "has severely harmed U.S. and Cuban businesses, farmers, and citizens, while failing to achieve any U.S. foreign policy or national security objectives.”
In questioning the executive's policy against the neighboring nation, they launched several questions, including whether the Trump administration has imposed similar restrictions on flights to any other country, what goal it hopes to achieve with the new limitations, and in what period.
The signatories of the letter include Senators Patrick Leahy, Chris Van Hollen, Tom Udall, Tammy Duckworth, Sheldon Whitehouse, Jack Reed, Ron Wyden, Jeanne Shaheen, and Chris Murphy. They also asked how does the administration believe these restrictions will benefit the people of Cuba or the United States,
The State and Transportation Departments announced on October 25 that as of December 10 all commercial flights to Cuban destinations outside Havana will be suspended. (RHC)
