Granma article points to an additional ingredient of U.S. slander campaign against Cuba

Photo: RHCPhoto: RHCHavana, November 20.- An article on Granma newspaper on Wednesday accused the US Embassy in Havana, and particularly its Chargé d'Affaires, Mara Tekach,  of meddling on the island´s internal affairs through the open instigation to violence, the disruption of order and disrespect of law-enforcement officials.

Granma states that an additional element of the slander campaign currently waged by the US against Cuba has been the pretext of the arrest of the counterrevolutionary José Daniel Ferrer, a salaried agent in the service of the United States, with a long history of provocative actions against public order and legality.

The article stressed that the US Embassy in Havana has been the fundamental vehicle of attention, orientation, and financing of the behavior of José Daniel Ferrer, with Tekach personally leading the performance.

The text added that It is well known that, far from dedicating itself to the promotion of bilateral ties, to safeguarding the interests of the American people and its Government, and to promoting peaceful relations among States, the Diplomatic Mission of that country in Cuba and particularly its Chargé d'Affaires have in recent months concentrated on the failed purpose of recruiting mercenaries, promoting division and confusion among the Cuban people, identifying areas of the economy against which to direct coercive measures, and trying to slander and discredit the management of the Cuban government and the Revolution.

“As is customary practice, the lie in the mouths of U.S. government officials is a fundamental ingredient of the campaign,” said Granma.

The paper noted that José Daniel Ferrer was arrested by the police last October 1 in response to a complaint filed by a Cuban citizen, who accuses Ferrer and three other individuals of having kidnapped him for an entire night and delivered a severe beating that left him in hospital conditions.

“Ferrer is awaiting trial. He has received visits from his wife and children, as befits his legal situation. All references to his physical disappearance, alleged physical mistreatment, torture or insufficient food are pure lies deliberately conceived and directed by the United States Government and its Embassy in Havana. He has received due medical attention, carries out regular physical exercises and, upon request, is provided with religious assistance,” Granma added.

The Cuban newspaper recalled tha prior to his service to the United States Government, José Daniel Ferrer had a history of delinquency and violent conduct totally devoid of political motivation. He has a record dating back to 1993. These include assaults with physical violence on other citizens, including women, and public disorder, behavior that has increased in recent years.

“There is sufficient evidence for all of this," stressed Granma. (RHC)
