Instituted in 2013 by the International Dental Federation, World Oral Health Day, on March 20, draws attention to the importance of caring for this area of our body to safeguard general health and well-being.
Data from the World Health Organization estimate that between 60 and 90 percent of school children and almost all adults have dental caries worldwide.
In its data report, the United Nations states that serious periodontal diseases, which can lead to tooth loss, affect between 15 percent and 20 percent of middle-aged adults, between 35 and 44 years old.
It also highlights that around 30 percent of the world population around aged 65-74 has no natural teeth.
Oral health essential for life is the slogan of the day in Cuba, organized by the Cuban Society of Stomatology.
Dentists, periodontists and oral specialists will speak on issues such as prevention and control of smoking, epidemiology and childcare, with emphasis on oral health. (Cadenagramonte)
