Cuba Premieres Piece by Iraeli Ohad Naharin

Photo: PLHavana, May 4.- Cuban dance company Malpaso is premiering the piece Tabula Rasa, one of the famous dances by Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin.
The title comes from a Latin expression that states the act of not taking into account past events, similar to the common modern expression of 'making a fresh start.'
Naharin, one of the major contemporary choreographers worldwide, made this piece in the 1980s and, according to art critics, this is a moving beauty choreography about a musical composition by Estonian Arvo PÃñrt.
The Marti Theater in Havana will host the staging on May 4, 5 and 6, and the shows will be the preamble of the Malpaso performances, on May 11 and 12, at the John F. Kennedy Center in the United States, where the company will participate in the Festival 'Artes de Cuba: From the Island to the World'.
Pieces such as 'Ser', by Beatriz Garcia; 'El piso a cuestas' (The floor to slopes), by Abel Pupo; and 'Vals indomable' (Indomitable Waltz), by Canadian Aszure Barton, complete the program.
Naharin arrived in Havana also convened by the International Theater Institute (ITI), an UNESCO entity, which this year gave Cuba the main venue for the celebration of the International Dance Day. (PL)
