Camagüey´s Blood Donors add up to six consecutive years between achievers

Photo: CadenagramonteCamagüey, Jun 7.- This province met for the sixth consecutive year its commitment to voluntary blood donations, altruistic gesture that helps to save lives or to improve their quality before certain types of diseases.
So far this year, the Camagüey´s inhabitants provide more than 12 thousand 700 deliveries of the vital human component.
In this context, the Policlinic Carlos J. Finlay, the capital of Camagüey, hosted this Wednesday the start of the Day of the volunteer donor blood in the territory, which will last until the next day 14.
Mirialis Arévalo González, Chief of that program in the territory, explained that during this period will take place the recognition to people who are regular donors of blood and meetings between them and patients that, thanks to the altruistic gesture, have improved their quality of life dramatically.
The municipality of Camagüey reached the rank of Vanguard, while Vertientes, Guáimaro and Florida reached the rank of outstanding and Jimaguayú was recognized, all with a significant contribution that contributed to the results of the province in a task of deep human connotation.
Groups such as the factories of beer Tínima, of feed and the Vaquita (dairy products), and the people's council in Port-au-Prince, all in the provincial capital, are among the most prominent in the program of blood donations.
Orestes Llanes Mestres, national vice chairperson of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR), told the newspaper Granma that without the contribution of a selfless carried out more than 350 thousand donors in the country, it would not be possible to ensure an efficient functioning of the Cuban System of Public Health.
In addition, he recognized family physicians and nurses, presidents of CDR and area coordinators, representatives of political and mass organizations, and to those who make possible the realization of this task.
The past year Cuba joined 412 thousand blood donations, which made it possible to carry out around 200 transplants, 34 of them of marrow and 23 of the liver, and over one million surgical interventions. (Cadenagramonte)
