The treatment of gender and race in the contemporary Cuban audiovisual, musicological and ballet research in Cuba, and the relationship between university, culture and community will be the thematic axes of the meeting, which already received work from the people interested in participating.

Silvia Campbell Silié, member of the Organizing Committee of the event —headed by Dr. Luis Álvarez Álvarez — explained that the papers or audiovisuals may be sent to the Camagüey subsidiary of the University of Arts until October 5th. The work will be accepted in digital and printed format, and each commission shall award a prize.

She also commented that this event has a great importance for academic training and the consolidation of art in the province. Carpentier’s work alludes to all artistic manifestations and; therefore, it is necessary to be disseminated throughout the country for the knowledge of the youngsters.

The program also includes lectures by important scholars, including Ismael Albelo, professor of the University of Arts, who will discuss the current situation of choreographic creation in Cuba, and Ph.D. Noel Bonilla, who will speak about the dramatization of folklore in the country.

The first conference Alejo Carpentier is an initiative of the homonymous chair of the Camagüey subsidiary of the University of Arts, in honor to the writer who knew how to capture with incredible veracity and fantasy our social, artistic and historical circumstances. (Cadenagramonte)
