This time, the intention to undermine and hinder the resolution presented by Cuba for the twenty-seventh consecutive year against this siege imposed for more than half a century included the attempt to introduce eight amendments to the Cuban text.
At first, Washington submitted a single document with its amendments, but then preferred to be voted separately to create greater tensions and hinder voting.
The Cuban project entitled "The need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba" has been approved almost unanimously over the last 26 years.
The first setback on Thursday took place when the plenary decided that the amendments would be approved by two-thirds of the votes and not by a simple majority.
Another eight defeats of the American maneuver were consummated with the rejection of the one-to-one meeting of each US amendment by between 113 and 115 countries against three in favor (US, Israel, and Ukraine).
And the last blow to Washington and climax of its collapse was the endorsement of the text of the Cuban resolution by 189 votes against two against (United States and Israel), the same result recorded last year.
However, the stubbornness of the White House against Cuba was again in evidence when his UN ambassador, Nikki Haley, interpreted what happened as "a defeat for the United Nations."
Shortly after the vote and despite the failure suffered in a General Assembly composed of 193 countries, American intransigence retook their presence in Miami, where its presidential adviser, John Bolton, announced that his government will take more actions against Cuba. (Cadenagramonte)
