Literary party concludes in Havana with a message of solidarity to Venezuela

Foto: GranmaFoto: GranmaIt was felt at the closing ceremony of the Havana chapter of the 28th International Book Fair, solidarity with the brother people of Venezuela, and with its constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro, before the interference of Yankee imperialism and its lackeys, occurred in the yesterday afternoon, in the Nicolás Guillén room in La Cabaña, in the words of Juan Rodríguez Cabrera, president of the Cuban Book Institute.

In the presence of Roberto Montesino Pérez, Head of Propaganda and Culture of the Central Committee of the Party; Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture, and Nereyda López Labrada, secretary of the National Trade Union of Cultural Workers (SNTC), among other personalities, were recognized for their quality the best stands exhibited on the premises and a special distinction was given to the pavilion of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria.

In the modality of modular stand a great Prize was awarded to the Editorial of Icaic; and Prize to Ediciones Cubanas, of Artex S.A. Among the non-modular Editions Aurelia International received the Grand Prize, while the Prize went to Ediciones Vigía. Other recognitions were given to the projects Treasure of Paper, of Gente Nueva, and Nuestra Historia, of Verde Olivo, just to mention a few.

Grateful for the warm welcome to his country, Mhamed Achache, ambassador of Algeria in Cuba, stressed that the event has allowed Cubans to learn about Algerian literature and culture, and that from it the cultural exchange of both countries is strengthened.

More than 400 representatives from 48 countries have participated in the Fair and more than 4,000 titles and about four million copies have been available to readers, said Rodriguez, who said that the public acquired about 409 395 copies, a figure higher than 5 000 to what was achieved in the last Fair.
A total of 385 936 visitors have arrived at La Cabaña, higher than 20,900 at the last edition, said Rodríguez. He stressed that although there are many reasons to see the success of the Fair, this does not mean that full satisfaction has been achieved. the aspirations and needs of the reading public, for which we work tirelessly.
