Photo: CubadebateThe cycling team Astana Women s Team, captained by Cuban Arlenis Sierra, will have six competitions next month, five in Belgium and one in Italy, the team confirmed today.
The Asian squad will fulfill its first commitment on March 5 at Le Samyn des Dames, a race marked by the presence of 25 powerful teams from all over the world, all registered in Europe, except Trek Segafredo, from the United States.
The course of the Belgian event will cover 28,186 kilometers (km) and will culminate in an elevation of 101 meters.
Later, the Astana will animate the classic flamenco in that same country Omloop van de Westhoek, to be played five days later at a distance of 122.2 km.
Organized for the first time for the women's wing, the Danilith Nokere Koerse voor Belgian Dames of 121 kilometers will run on Wednesday 20, with 22 clubs challenged to cross numerous cobbled areas and climb the Nokereberg hill seven times, a slight slope, but with a length of 350 meters in the ascent.
The Alfredo Binda Trophy will be held on the 24th in Italy, in that test Sierra culminated in the second seat two years ago.
Astana Women s Team will return to Belgium for the Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne, 151.7 km between the cities of Bruges and De Panne on the 28th.
The Gent-Wevelgem In Flanders Fields, on the 31st, will close the busy month of March for the Kazakh team.
Last year, in the seventh edition of that test for women, the Cuban finished fourth on a route of 143.7 km.
For the 24 teams, the cobbled sections are the main challenges in that competition, as well as wind and rain in a terrain highly exposed to the elements of nature.
The route of the Gent-Wevelgem, mostly flat, is considered one of the classics for speed specialists, ideal for Sierra to achieve good results. (Cubadebate)
