Photo: RHCHavana, Feb 27.- One month after the devastating tornado that hit five municipalities in this capital, the city shows clear signs of recovery and advances in the delivery of homes.
At least thirty families affected after the impact of the weather event have already received their homes, thousands have acquired construction materials at subsidized prices and dozens of cases have been resolved, the Granma newspaper says.
The day before, the first secretary of the Communist Party in Havana, Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, acknowledged the progress, but demanded greater speed in the solution of the problems caused in the housing infrastructure.
More than seven thousand affectations in the housing and a number superior to the thousand of total and partial landslides was the balance of the tornado that struck especially the municipalities of Regla, Guanabacoa and Diez de Octubre.
Last weekend, President Miguel Díaz-Canel made a new tour of the affected areas and attended the delivery of housing and acts related to the rehabilitation of health centers.
Díaz-Canel highlighted the renewed face of neighborhoods severely hit by the phenomenon, where before there was abundant debris and sadness, while now there is hope and cleanliness.
In that sense, he reiterated his call to leave the works that recover better than he was before the tragic night of January 27, when the tornado claimed several lives and left some 200 injured and substantial material damage.
According to the head of state, the unit has been key in the recovery, as well as the principle always respected by the Cuban Revolution of not abandoning anyone to their fate, however difficult the situation may be.
The event caused major damage to basic services such as electricity, water supply and communications, which in a short time returned to normal.
Based on the priority given by the Cuban government to the recovery, the Council of Ministers carries out, with Díaz-Canel at the forefront, systematic follow-up meetings. (RHC)
