Photo: CubadebateThat the public feels the Havana of celebration, adorned with everything that is tradition and cubanity, is the main objective that Giraldo Piloto seeks with the XVIII edition of the Drum Festival "Guillermo Barreto in Memoriam", which will be held in Havana, from March 4 to 10.
"It is our event, the event of the root, of what we inherit from Africa, from Spain and from the Franco-Haitian culture. All this range makes it possible for this to be another space to defend our culture, our island and our identity, "Barreto added in an interview for Cubadebate.
Spain will be the guest of honor in this 2019 and therefore will be presented by the group Patax, Laura de los Angeles and Diego El Cigala, all from this nation.
In this contest also participate the main orchestras of popular dance music of Cuba like Alain Pérez and Los Van Van; several of the most outstanding dance companies in the country, such as Irene Rodríguez; jazz groups, and folk groups. There are also visits to cultural sites and master classes in percussion and dance.
As part of the program of the event, three contests with participation of Cubans and foreigners will be held, open to all ages: one for Percussion, another for Casino dance, and another for Rumba dancers.
La Fiesta del Tambor, founded by Cuban drummer Giraldo Piloto, is a festival that promotes the preponderance of percussion in Caribbean music, and this 2019 will bring together important musicians from the United States, Canada and Spain, among other countries. (Cubadebate)
