Last week, Díaz-Canel presided over the annual balance sheets of the Ministries of Economy and Planning, and of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, key sectors to build an efficient economy that guarantees a prosperous and sustainable society.
Cuba has an atypical scenario for these goals, because the ultimate goal is - unlike other systems - the inclusion and well-being of people, and because it must achieve it in a particular context, marked by the impact of the blockade imposed on it United States for almost six decades, said the president.
¨We must listen to those who know best, approaching research centers and universities, in order to promote innovation¨, he added.
According to Díaz-Canel, in the context in which the Cuban economy is developing, it is urgent to boost exports and direct foreign investments.
These issues, together with tourism and the non-state sector, are key elements of the necessary productive linkages, he added.
Also, the president urged to lighten the bureaucratic burden of processes associated with foreign investment in order to obtain better results and referred to the need to create a favorable environment for foreign investors.
Diversifying and expanding markets and products should also be a priority, he added by calling for support in the computerization of society to make processes more efficient in these vital fields for the development of the economy. (PL)
