The Cuban Press Day begins

Photo: RHCPhoto: RHCHavana, Mar 5.- With the post-graduate course Latin America, political and media confrontation began the Cuban Press Day, which will run until the 15th of this month, and has as main incentive to stimulate the construction of a new model of socialist press.

The theoretical event is designed for the preparation of journalists from Cuba and other countries, and will have special conferences, such as the Ecuadorian Amauri Chamorro, the Danish Jakob Rubin and a final presentation by the Charge d'Affaires of the Venezuelan embassy in the largest of the Antilles, reports the newspaper Granma.

This course will also serve as a platform to express solidarity with the people of Hugo Chávez and the Bolivarian Revolution, at a time when the offensive of the imperialist right against this redoubt of the left in the continent is sharpening, according to statements by Ariel Terrero, director of the José Martí International Journalism Institute, where the meeting will take place.

As is traditional, during the day will distinguish the work of those who have contributed their entire lives to the profession and the best works of the year, materialized in the National and Annual Journalism Awards José Martí and Juan Gualberto Gómez, respectively.

On Monday, the prizes of the printed press corresponding to 2018 were also awarded: Jorge Enrique Mendoza, for the work of life, and Guillermo Cabrera, for the work that year.

Among the central activities are the usual pilgrimage to the tomb of Juan Gualberto Gómez and the panel Digital Journalism and new press model, in line with the demands received by the sector in the X Congress of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC).

One could not ignore the response of the press sector after the tornado hit five municipalities of the capital, with their professional presence and solidarity as the rest of the population. Images of the recovery captured by a group of photojournalists of national media are in the photographic exhibition Tornado de humanismo, that this Tuesday will be inaugurated in the House of the Press, in the central Vedado.

And to give proof of the theme of the day, the public press, the people's press, on March 13, in the Coppelia wifi park, there will be a Festival in which the press will develop initiatives that involve representatives from various sectors of the society, as artists and athletes.

It will be one of the milestones of almost 10 days of activities, dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, at 165 years of the birth of the famous Cuban patriot and journalist Juan Gualberto Gómez and to the 127th anniversary of the first issue of the Patria newspaper, founded by Jose Marti.
