Photo: PLHavana, March 18.- A new documentary dedicated to the figure and imprint of Cuban musician Juan Formell and his legendary orchestra Van Van is available today on the YouTube digital platform with over 10,000 views.
Titled Masters, the audiovisual has almost an hour and a half in length and focuses on the studio sessions of the band during the recording of their most recent Legacy record production.
The first minutes reflect the neighborhoods and customs of the city of Havana, while the voice of Formell stands out as a musical background interpreting the theme La Fantasía with the subtle accompaniment of the piano.
In addition, it uses archive images of concerts, trips, meetings, rehearsals that had the formation and its leader, creator of the songo rhythm and institution of Cuban music.
The narrative line is an interview with Samuel Formell who talks about his childhood memories with the group, his training as a musician and the difficult moment when he had to assume the direction of Los Van Van.
With the production of the Center des arts studio Enghien-les-bains (France) and the Unicornio de Producciones Abdala label (Cuba), the material also includes interviews with great exponents of Cuban music such as Issac Delgado, Cesar 'Pupy' Pedroso and Pedrito Calvo.
Maestros joins the tributes that the orchestra receives during this year on the 50th anniversary of its creation on December 4, 1969. (PL)
