Photo: JITHavana, Mar. 19 - With Liván Martínez and young Daniela Fonzeca, Cuba will be present at the Caribbean Table Tennis Tournament that will host Georgetown, the capital of Guyana, between the 24th and the 31st, with the objective of distributing tickets to the Pan-American Games of Lima 2019 and the Cup of the continent in 2020.
Obtaining classification for the latter is the goal of the Antillean couple, since the presence in Lima has already been confirmed since last November, and will be with full cast, as it was four years ago in Toronto.
Until last weekend the Cubans were immersed in the VIII International League by teams from Yucatan, Mexico, where they were "mixed" with athletes from other countries to provide more rivalry in the matches.
"Above all, it was important to increase the volume of competencies. They played a lot and when dividing the forces they adapt to different strategies ", commented the national commissioner Bárbaro Oliva, who mentioned Karla Pérez as the most advance in the appointment.
"She was part of the Jalisco team in the second category and she did very well," he said of one of the young figures of the national team, who, like the rest of his teammates, intervened earlier in the Yucatan Open.
In the first category among men, Livan closed with bronze medal as part of the so-called Domos Travel, eliminated in the semifinals by the then monarch Leones Anahuac.
Daniela had less action, because her team did not show in the best form and did not advance to the crosses for medals, but she covered a good number of matches in the aforementioned Open, where she won the scepters of the Free and U-22 categories.
For the first time Cuba manages to conquer the two titles in the Free, because the experienced Andy Pereira did his part among the men to round in five the Caribbean gold, including in addition to the sub-15 of Domar Agüelles and the doubles men.
Both contests had contestants from Cuba, Guatemala, Peru, the United States, Colombia, Puerto Rico and the hosts, these distributed by zones: Jalisco, Quintana Roo and the local Yucatan. (JIT)
