Cuban photographer will receive a Dance Prize of Catalonia, Spain

Photo: PLPhoto: PLMadrid, Mar 20.- Cuban photographer Gabriel Dávalos won one of the Dance Prizes of Catalonia 2019, awarded by the International Dance Competition "Ciudad de Barcelona", confirms the Spanish institution today.

'I feel honored, this award is like a hug on the road, an intimate moment, whose most important value is not the recognition itself, but the commitment and encouragement to continue. I'm grateful, "said the journalist and photographer exclusively to Prensa Latina.

According to the director of the event, Georgina Rigola, this award recognizes the professionalism, creativity and career of personalities and institutions related to the world of ballet and dance in general, both in the Iberian country and internationally.

On this occasion, they will also receive the award Ada González, soloist of the Ballet of the Opera of Bucharest, Romania; the Real Artistic Circle of Barcelona; and the company Meliá Hotels, among other artists and entities.

According to the historical record of the event, in previous editions, the winners include the dancer and choreographer Julio Bocca, the theater director Cesc Casadesús, the Alicia Alonso Chair of the Rey Juan Carlos University and the Castell de Peralada Festival.

Dávalos has published four books and now has almost ready a fifth publication with photographs of dance in the streets of the central Cuban city of Santa Clara; He has also exhibited his works in exhibitions in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Precisely at this time, any traveler from Havana - the hometown and residence of the photographer - will notice in Coppélia -one of the most central places in the capital of Cuba-, 20 outdoor fences with images of the artist that reaffirm the expressive capacities of the dance.

In 2015, Dávalos won the prize for contemporary dance photography and new trends: Warp, dance on the web, in Colombia, and in 2016 he won the International Photo Ballet Competition Ana Pávlova, in Holland. (PL)
