Photo: JITHavana, March 26.- Training bases in El Salvador and Mexico will mark the next moment of Cuban athletics, which already has priorities set for the XVIII Pan American Games in Lima 2019.
This was confirmed by the national commissioner Yipsi Moreno in an interview to the Pulso Deportivo television program, in which she also commented on strategies with the main exponents towards the fundamental competition of the year, without ignoring that later there will be another summit with the Doha world championship, in Taste.
Specialties such as the long and triple jump between men, and the release of the disc, the heptathlon and the pole of women make up the group of tests in which the Island focuses its greatest hopes.
Juan Miguel Echevarría and Jordan Díaz for the first two, and the well-known Yaimé Pérez, Denia Caballero, Yorgelis Rodríguez and Yarisley Silva are mentioned when it comes to priorities, without forgetting other figures that are also included in any forecast project.
For all, a preparation plan has been designed that includes training at height for specialists from 400 meters onwards, among them the men from the 4x400 relay with Yoandys Lescay, who returned to the work sessions, and also the Central-Caribbean champions of the long post Roxana Gómez and Rose Mary Almanza.
The queen of the Olympic hammer in Beijing 2008 announced that sprinters and pitchers will travel to Salvadoran lands, while other specialties will make their stay in Monterrey, Mexico.
Exits in different groups are planned for mid-April, and a second competitive moment at home was planned for June with the Barrientos Memorial.
"We have planned a practical and objective route to achieve the results," said the directive, who mentioned the discipline as a primary factor to demand within the large group that is prepared.
International meetings in the Caribbean area and participation in the Diamond League with the highest ranking, as well as possible assistance to events in Europe will also form the critical route.
It has not yet been specified what places will be included in that programming, since itineraries and possible invitations are still being adjusted, but the format of previous years will surely be repeated: intervene in those that pay the best fit.
Understanding the sport speaks of between three and five titles as a contribution of athletics in Lima, a figure that responds to objective realities and that could increase depending on the presence or not of the best rival figures, in addition to the good performance of Cubans.
Some tests such as the long jump with Juan Miguel, the record that should be given 1-2 with Yaimé and Denia -they will be in charge of order- and the heptathlon of Yorgelis seem to have no discussion.
For Jordan triple will be a challenge for his youth and current results in the region, while Yarisley will defend his Toronto crown in a complicated specialty not only by several Americans, but also by the Venezuelan Robeilys Peinado.
In any case, the world champion of Beijing 2015 has mastery and courage to face challenges like the one that now lies ahead. At critical moments he has faced countless times and is more than proven how much he grows in the face of the challenge. (JIT)
