The British Royalty in tour at the historic center of Havana

Photo: GranmaHavana, March 26.- Next to celebrate its half millennium, the streets of Havana received on Monday Prince Charles of Wales and the Duchess Camilla of Cornwall, who toured during the morning the world heritage that is Old Havana.
With the starting point right in the foundational place, El Templete, and accompanied by one of the most zealous guardians the city has had, City Historian Eusebio Leal Spengler, members of the Royal Family of the United Kingdom toured emblematic places as the Palace of the General Captains, where they appreciated a tally unveiled on the occasion of his visit, which recalls the presence in this capital of British troops in 1762 and the defense of Havana.
Before they had offered homage to Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, with a wreath placed before the statue located in the Plaza de Armas.
As a day for the memory could be cataloged the tour of their Royal Highnesses, it was also a space to universalize even more the tribute of the city to great figures of the arts, as is the case of famous English playwright William Shakespeare, whose statue in the Calle Mercaderes, in front of the San Gerónimo school, was unveiled in the presence of visitors.
The smells of the city, the new shops, the gastronomic offerings in the middle of the street, attracted the attention of the Prince and the Duchess, who took separate paths to discover other spaces.

Another stop along the way was the Mail Room, a barbershop that is becoming an obligatory site and where, in 2014, Ban Ki-moon, then Secretary General of the United Nations Organization, had even decided to take a haircut.
In the Plaza San Francisco de Asís, this meeting with the historic center of the city concluded, an opportunity during which his Royal Highnesses also learned about the conservation actions and the activities that are carried out to celebrate the half millennium of Havana.
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were received in the afternoon by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, who declared, through the social network Twitter, that this visit expresses the good state of the relations between both countries.
