Varadero Half Marathon will include retrorunning

Photo: JITHavana, 28 mar.- The return will have space in the Half Marathon of Varadero, whose second edition will run this weekend in the famous Cuban beach resort.
Wilfredo Díaz García, world multimedallista in the modality of career of backs, assured to JIT that will be present in the joust of 10 kilometers, which must cover in the time range of one hour.
After thanking the support and enthusiasm for his participation, on behalf of the Cuban Athletics Federation and other organizers, he recalled that last year he ran the 21 kilometers with a time of 2.23: 24 hours.
"I did it despite health difficulties. I felt very committed to the opportunity they had given me and I had the World Championship of Retrorunning in Bologna ahead, "explained the psychologist by profession.
«Now I am very well, already recovered from that evil, and although I do not go to the maximum of preparation I hope not to be very far from my national and Pan-American record in the ten thousand meters, written down in 49:36 minutes», commented enthusiastically.
He also highlighted the visit to Cuba, to intervene in the Varadero event, of two world retrorunning champions, the Puerto Rican Jorge Cruz and Wanda Lebrón.
Cruz reigned in the ten thousand meters of the version of Aosta, Italy, in 2014, and Wanda in the five thousand of Bologna 2018.
Díaz García, leader of the Retrorunning Cuba Project, almost confirmed his presence in May (5-15) in the I Central American Championship of Retrorunning, based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
There he expects to take part in five races, with a design that will always include the 10 kilometers and the half marathon, plus two cross country distances and another on the track to be defined.
This athlete, once a marcher of the national team, has all the
Cuban records and a total of five medals from the world. In Essen, Germany, in 2016, he captured a 1-2-1 trio, and last year in Bologna was part of the America post of the 4x400 that obtained the subtitle. (JIT)
