Cuba Inaugurates XXI International Biennial of Graphic Humor

Photo: PLPhoto: PL Havana, 1 apr.- Graphic comedians from 43 countries compete today in Cuba until April 3 at the XXI International Biennial of Graphic Humor of San Antonio de los Baños, province near this capital.

With a constant call to defend peace, the Círculo de Humoristas y Historietistas of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC) and the Humor Museum of San Antonio de los Baños, encourage this meeting between foreign and Cuban professionals.

According to one of the members of the organizing committee, journalist Jorge Legañoa, the court this year received more than 1,300 works by artists from 55 nations and left 299 in competition, from authors from 43 countries.

Those with the largest number of works are Cuba, Turkey and Iran; They are joined by Brazil, Argentina, China, Uzbekistan, Puerto Rico, Italy, India, Germany, Colombia, Romania, Indonesia, Spain, Egypt, Estonia, Serbia, the United States, Peru, Ukraine and Poland, among others.

Genres such as Personal Caricature, Photography, Cartoon, Political Satire and General Humor will be evaluated by a jury composed of the Belgian Cecile Bertrand, the American Liza Donnelly, the Salvadoran Carlos Alfredo Ruiz, the Japanese Kosei Ono and the Cubans Zenaida Manes and Alfredo Martirena .

Creators from Mexico, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Portugal, Russia, the United States, Japan and Belgium came to Cuba to participate in conferences, workshops, exhibitions and other activities held on the occasion of the meeting that in 2019 proposes the motto of 'Humans with rights'.

The Biennial has traditionally been a party and we want to keep it that way, said Legañoa at a recent press conference, after reporting on concerts, tributes, audiovisual projection and opening of samples included in the program.

About the works, the most criticized figure is the president of the United States, Donald Trump, and many creators chose to address the need for peace in very interesting ways, therefore -according to several organizers of the event- the goals of laughing and thinking will be fulfilled. .
