"Behind the Wall" art exhibition on Havana's boardwalk

Photo: CubadebatePhoto: CubadebateHavana, 15 Apr.- Thinking about art beyond its beauty and transforming it into a social transformer is one of the objectives of the "Behind the Wall" project, which has turned Havana's boardwalk into a passage of culture and exchange constant with passers-by.

This Sunday the initiative was inaugurated -for the third time- in Malecón No. 307 between Galeano and San Nicolás. Afterwards, hundreds of people traveled the route from Maceo Park to La Punta fortress to enjoy installations, performances, graffiti, sculptures and many other manifestations of art.

There were several works that caught the public, being contemporary and different proposals, which resorted to direct exchange and changed all the established precepts of art.

In 'Footprints' by the American artist Emilio Pérez, people were in charge of the final finish of the mural, as they ripped the paper stuck to the wall, starting from predetermined marks; and from those own traces the plastic work was created.

The performances were also well received by the people who came to the Malecón, especially ‘Building the feminine´ and 'Mirar sin ver'. In both those who interacted, they blindfolded; in the first one they identified feminine traits from statues of dresses; and in the other one walked through an irregular surface, made up of different materials. With the bandages the creators wanted touch to penetrate into view.

Also, '19: 30 ', of the Cuban Jorge Otero, happened to be an attractive and different space. Dozens of chairs of all kinds lined up in rows at the Fortaleza de la Punta. Whoever wanted to could sit down, look at the sea and enjoy a pleasant time with instrumental music from a small group in the background.
And if we talk about art, we cannot fail to mention a giant ball, in the same Fortress, made up of letters from plastic artists where they take a critical look at the role of the cultural institution in the representation of artists, mainly to assume and promote the works of the emerging talents.

These are just some of dozens of works by Cuban and foreign artists who came to this space in order to transform them. The appointment is made. Behind the wall "is a necessary route for lovers of good art during the XIII
