Alba and Cobas golden at Mexico's Taekwondo Open

Photo: JITHavana, 15 Apr.- With the titles of Rafael Alba and José Ángel Cobas, along with the silver medal of Glenhis Hernández, Cuba closed today in third place by countries in the Taekwondo Open in Mexico, a prestigious tournament attended by world champions and Pan American.
Mexico, a world power in taekwondo, ranked first in teams with eight gold, seven silver and five bronze medals, followed by the United States (3-0-4) and Cuba (2-1-0).
In the tournament, more than 200 fighters from America, Asia, Europe and Africa competed since last Friday, among them Olympic and World medalists.
The champion of the orb in Puebla 2013, Rafael Alba (more 87 kg), and the Pan-American holder in Toronto 2015, José Ángel Cobas (80 kg), led with gold medals the performance of the Cuban cast.
Glenhis Hernandez, universal monarch six years ago, could not enrich the golden booty, losing in the final against the Puerto Rican Crystal Weekes.
In the Mexican Open, the fighters played up to 40 points for the world ranking, so Alba and Cobas achieved the maximum goal and added to the ranking that considerable accumulated.
Cuba participated with 12 taekwondo players, of which seven qualified to the Pan American Games in Lima 2019. (JIT)
