Cuba is a country of medals

Photo: JITHavana, April 23.- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez called today not to work alone in search of medals, although we should not give up these either, at the close of the Inder balance meeting, held at the International Health Center. Pradera, in this capital.
In a long and deep reflection, the president recalled the importance of sport and physical activity for human health and development, but noted that Cuba is a country of medals and should continue to be so.

His first words were denunciation of the recent cancellation of the Agreement between the Cuban Baseball Federation (FCB) and the Major League Baseball (MLB), erased by the Donald Trump administration.
In this regard criticized the treacherous attitude of two Cuban baseball players based in that country, able to support the measure by forgetting its roots and approaching the interests of traffickers of human beings.
Then he ratified that our people will face with firmness the resurgence of aggressions against the Island, a strategy reinforced by the United States after being left behind in its escalation against Venezuela.
Díaz-Canel referred to the importance of working with the cadres, from whom one hopes sensitivity and revolutionary restlessness to avoid inertia and to touch with each hand each difficulty.
He noted that athletes, coaches, families and fans have concerns, aspirations, doubts, and that they should be heard and taken into account, provided that they are comprehensive and there are possibilities to make them a reality.
He reiterated that public management must be more diligent, avoiding obstacles and delays, removing all existing litter, and deepening the link with the base.
We must all give an account, he said later, because when that does not happen mistakes are made and there is no way to amend them.
As he has done throughout his tenure, the president addressed the importance of social communication, the computerization of the sports system and scientific research, a subject that was praised for what was achieved through the Sports Research Center Cubano (CIDC) and the Cuban Sports Information Resource Center (CRIDC), among others.
Diaz-Canel made an important emphasis in the battle against corruption, since Inder has accumulated negative evaluations in the last controls to the internal economic management.
However, the also member of the Political Bureau of the PCC said that the resuscitation of sports facilities should be continued both nationally and in the provinces and municipalities.
In this particular, he clarified that the National Institute should be in charge of the directly subordinated ones, and that the territories should prioritize theirs from the budget and the contribution of one percent.

Are we out of date theoretically? Are we missing technologies? Do we lack blank? He inquired to identify only some of the pending tasks.
Later he reported that in recent weeks he has received several Sports Glorias concerned about various issues. In that sense, he asked to raise their attention for what they represent, for their example and because they remain at our side in the daily battle.
He assured that it is not only about the material, but often about the affective and sentimental.
Díaz-Canel also addressed the issue of hiring athletes abroad. He stated that the number is not good yet. And most important, he exclaimed, is its true impact on Cuban sport.
