New cars that will modernize and renew rail transport in the country

Photo: Juventud RebeldeHavana, May 21.- With the arrival of the first cars for the transportation of passengers, a process of rescue of the quality of rail service in Cuba is initiated, which will provide greater comfort, reduce travel times and restore departures today they remain canceled, said Monday afternoon in the capital Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Minister of Transport, at the ceremony of official reception of these equipment manufactured in the People's Republic of China.
The cars are part of a first batch of 80 from China, thanks to an agreement between the island and the Asian nation as part of a program of recovery and development of the Cuban railway until 2028, and will be incorporated into trips from Havana to Santiago de Cuba, Guantanamo, Holguín and the Bayamo-Manzanillo route, starting this summer, said the Minister.
"The railway development program in the current year also includes an extensive modernization process for the communications system, the repair of the stations, the rehabilitation of the workshop network and the repair of the railways," Rodríguez added. Dávila
For his part, Eduardo Hernández Becerra, general director of the Union of Railways of Cuba, stressed that both the service personnel on board and the technical assistance has the necessary preparation to take on this challenge. In the same way, there is an assurance in the spare parts and tools to ensure the maintenance of the cars.
For 44 years, Cuba had not acquired a batch of cars for kilometers of transportation for passengers. Those recently acquired, have two categories with different levels of comfort: a first, with air conditioning and television and video system, among other services; and a second, with ceiling fans and audio system.
The two types have 72 reclining and rotating seats, two bathrooms and a cold water drinker, and in their trips it is planned to incorporate the sale of food, according to previous information from the Directorate of Railways of Cuba.
The ceremony was also attended by Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, Vice President of the Council of Ministers, and the managers of the Chinese companies responsible for the manufacture of the cars, who thanked Cuba for entrusting them with this important service, which will be completed upon receiving the 240 cars provided in the agreement.
