The 8th International Tropical Swine Seminar 2019 today began its theoretical sessions with the Abeledo conference, who underlined the role of science in the increase of pork production.
We must take into account, he said, several of the effects on the global level that also influence the situation in Cuba, such as food, the market, climate change and animal health.
Another of the conferences of today was the Spanish professor Carlos Buxadé, who told his experiences on animal welfare and showed some technical bases to achieve this status in pigs.
Good physical and mental health from the zootechnical point of view, an adequate harmony with the environment and the ability to adapt to the environment ensure that the pig reaches welfare, explained Buxadé.
However, achieving this is something very complex, which depends on several factors and therefore requires a great effort on the part of all the producers participating in the process, said the Spanish professor.
Porcicultura 2019 proposes a workshop on food for tomorrow, which will talk about tropical forage as a source of proteins and prebiotics; utilization of agroindustrial by-products and sustainable pork nutrition.
Animal health, the perspectives of the breeding program, the environmental effect of the Creole pig breeding and the productive performance of piglets in transition from deep bed systems, will be some of the topics to be discussed in the next discussion session.
The VIII International Tropical Swine Seminar 2019 will be held until May 31, during which more than 200 delegates from various provinces of the country and the international arena will be exhibiting. (ACN)
