In exchange with producers and managers of the base business unit Matadero y empacadora Macún, in Sagua la Grande; the farming company of Cultivos Varios de Quemado de Güines; and the company Valle del Yabú, of Santa Clara, Comandante Machado insisted on the need to produce the land and increase productive yields at higher levels.
"We cannot continue to allocate nearly 2 billion dollars to the purchase of food, many of which can be produced here if we take better advantage of the resources we have; that are not few ", meant.
The land is our main wealth, only that we do not exploit it well, nor with the required efficiency, he said and insisted on planting as many hectares of land, without relying only on those that have irrigation systems, because there are many crops that are rainfed.
A fruitful exchange took place with Sergio Rodríguez, director of the Research Institute of Tropical Viandas (Inivit), about the potential of this scientific institution to provide solutions to animal feed from the cultivation of cassava, sweet potatoes and other foods, with the purpose of replacing part of the imports of raw materials to make feed.
In this regard, the Director of Inivit reflected on the potential of cassava in the feeding of pigs such as Inivit Y93-4, and the various varieties created by the center that allow to have this product throughout the year, in addition to the sweet potato and the head of malanga, among others.
