Schools, families and society ready to celebrate Teacher's Day

Sierra de Cubitas, Nov 24th.- The annual one-month-period celebration for the Teacher's Day started in Sierra de Cubitas through a political and cultural ceremony held at Orlando González Ramírez High School, located in La Comunidad Cubitas where government authorities and labor union leaders participated.
At this time teachers and outstanding students were recognized because of their efforts to improve the efficiency indicators among which stand out the knowledge contests, the entrance to Higher Education and the continuity of pupils´ studies towards higher levels of education.
Together with the actions that make possible the current school year and those measures for the recovery of homes, schools and other State entities affected by Hurricane Irma, the Teacher's Day activities are celebrated in the framework of the anniversary 56 of the National Literacy Campaign, which is the most important cultural event in Cuba during the 20th century.
Jorge Luis Guerra Santoya, municipal director of Education in Sierra de Cubitas, said that the objective of these activities is to promote a moral political environment in the educational and sports sector that encourages the work of teachers, deepen the knowledge and work of the heroes and martyrs of motherland and the best pedagogical traditions of national and local history, in addition to highlighting the job of educators in Cuba and abroad.

Likewise, special and necessary conversations among active, retired and young teachers will take place in this northern territory, as well as allegorical exhibitions to the important commemoration. All this will help to signify the commitment with the people, the family and society during the days of homage to teachers and professors who give the best of themselves in the education of the new generations.
Cuban Teacher's Day was founded to mark the end of the nation´s literacy campaign that concluded on December 22nd, 1961, period of time the majority of Cubans learned how to read and write. (Photos: Autor)
