Schoolboys make elections different also in Sierra de Cubitas

Children who guard the ballot boxes.Children who guard the ballot boxes.Sierra de Cubitas, Nov 28th.- Elections in Cuba differ greatly from those of the rest of the world, especially because it is the people who nominate their candidates, neither the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) nor the mass organizations postulate their representatives.

Among the aspects that distinguish Cubans there is one that contains the symbolism of the Cuban Revolution and confidence in the new generations, and it is the participation of schoolboys in the custody of the ballot boxes, wearing their white, red and yellow uniforms, with a smile on the lips and ready to welcome to voters.

Worldwide, the days of elections are completely different; soldiers are multiplied in the streets to avoid demonstrations and attacks on candidates and the theft of ballots.

Students from Enrique Hart Dávalos and José Martí Primary Schools were also part of that select group of children, who with there presence demonstrated the transparency of Sierra de Cubitas’ elections and the citizens’ quiteness what make them feel proud and safe.

The students are there, standing for hours and rotate more or less frequently, although they also organize to take the ballots to the homes of those voters unable to reach electoral school due to illness or advanced old age.

They have participated in the elections since 1976, since then their actions have been perfected because they even advise the voters on how to carry out the vote and how the ballot is deposited in the ballot box.

Their work is recognized by the different electoral processes carried out in Cuba, it was always done by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, who, every time he exercised his right to vote, had a phrase of gratitude, a gesture of affection, a motivating words for children and adolescents.
