El 17 de diciembre del 2014 (17 D), los presidentes de Cuba y Estados Unidos, Raúl Castro Ruz y Barack Obama, anunciaron de forma simultánea que se restablecerían las relaciones diplomáticas entre los dos países y se avanzaría hacia la normalización de los vínculos bilaterales. Se informó también del regreso a nuestra Patria de los tres héroes cubanos, Gerardo, Ramón y Antonio, quienes permanecieron presos injustamente durante 16 años en cárceles norteamericanas.
