Respecting patriotic symbols helps preserve the history

Photo: ArchiveJul, 2018.- The national and international representation of the states is based on the national symbols that constitute the expression of the history of a nation.
Respecting and valuing them must be in the conscience of every Cuban who loves his land. It should not be forgotten that the patriotic symbols represent a nation that with sacrifice reached its freedom and independence from a heroic and brave citizens.
Martí´s greatness, the bravery of Maceo, the impetus of Céspedes, the virtuous blood that was spilled in the Moncada, in Giron, in each and every one of the battles waged, symbolize them.
Nothing justifies the disrespectful acts towards these identitary signs of the Island, as it is the case of using the flag as underwear or as part of the costumes of a popular party to attract attention, modify and replace the elements that make it, walking or talk when the notes of the National Anthem are played.
Respect for national symbols must be part of their social ethics in order to fulfill their obligations as Cuban citizens, always remembering that whoever forgets their history is condemned to repeat it.
It is up to the family and school to ensure the dignity and integrity of the Homeland that our ancestors left us.
