Sportswomen also follow the example of Fidel

Photo: ArchivePhoto: ArchiveSierra de Cubitas, Sep13.- Fidel Castro Ruz was passionate about sports from his childhood to the university stage, where he practiced baseball, soccer and basketball, all that made him be always attentive to the wellbeing of people.

Since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, for Commander in Chief , sport was a right of the people, so from that time on it was a reality by creating the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation.

That is precisely why young athletes have risen up and named the name of Cuba in several countries, such as the Cuban Ivis May Vila, a volleyball player of only 16 years, an example of dedication and discipline, she has also been an inspiration for those who love sports.

The town of Sola was the place where Ivis May began her footsteps in the world of sports being very small with the support of his coaches and his father, then she was intensely trained at the School of Sports Initiation Cerro Pelado, in the city of Camagüey, a magnificent place for making true young sportsmen’s dreams.

She has been part of the team reaching at the National School Games the title of best passer of the event. And it is precisely that women set goals, therefore Ivis May Vila currently belongs to the national women's volleyball team of Cuba with outstanding results in their performance as an athlete, who is at the very same time a person admired and loved by almost everybody.

Some of the events in which the young cubiteña has participated and which she dedicates especially to her father are the following: Ivis May took part in two under 20 and under 18 world championships based in Mexico and Argentina, respectively, in addition to the Women's U-20 Volleyball Final Four Cup, the Pan-American Cup held in Havana and the NORCECA Women's Volleyball Championship in Mexico, Aguas Calientes.
