Photo: PLMoscow, Nov 11.- Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, held a brief conversation during the working meeting of top leaders of APEC, as part of the summit in Da Nang.
In the course of the meeting of the 21 economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), Trump approached Putin, whom he greeted, before exchanging for a short time, Russian television reported.
The day before, on the first day of the XXV APEC summit, Trump also briefly greeted Putin, in a photo session of the top leaders of the regional forum.
However, the Kremlin spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, confirmed that at the moment no formal meeting of both statesmen took place, in one of the most expected bilateral ceilings of the summit, they consider local analysts. The Interfax news agency notes that the US president did not attend a high-level dinner organized at the summit and thus avoided any friction with the Russian president, esteemed that media outlet.
The US head of state also missed two crucial activities of the event, including the meeting with the APEC Business Council and the meeting of the members of that forum and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
A source from the Russian Foreign Ministry, quoted by the Interfax news agency, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson formally held talks.
But the source avoided revealing the details of the mentioned conversation.
The day before, at the beginning of the summit, the White House announced that it would be impossible to hold a formal meeting between Putin and Trump, because of the bulky agenda of the head of the White House.
The US president himself had announced the intention to dialogue with his Russian counterpart in the framework of the APEC summit, where he had to discuss the Syrian crisis and the dispute over Pyongyang's nuclear program.
Trump said in one of his controversial twitter messages that it would be good to involve Russia in alleged pressure on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which Washington is threatening with military actions.
On July 7, both statesmen held talks for two hours and 15 minutes, as part of the summit of the Group of 20, in the German city of Hamburg, the first stop between the two since the arrival of Trump to the presidency. (PL)
