UN Official Concludes Visit to Haiti

Photo: Cadenagramonte.Port of Prince, Feb 9.- UN peacekeeping secretary Bintou Keita concludes her visit with the commitment to end the UN Mission for the Support of Justice in Haiti (Minjusth) in an ''Unusually tight'' moment.
In her recent meeting with President Jovenel Moise, it was agreed that Minjusth will remain in Haiti for two years, to accompany the national authorities in the consolidation of the rule of law, considered a short time for missions of this type, according to Keita
The UN representative, in her last day of work, signed an agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which reinforces the joint actions of the international organization in the Caribbean nation, and at the same time, pushes the way towards sustainable progress.
Developing the capacity of national institutions, the local private sector, civil society and communities in Haiti are some of the objectives pursued by UNDP in the country.
Keita also visited the National Council of the Judiciary, a key institution for the strengthening of the rule of law, and there she committed himself with her authorities to collaborate in the maintenance of peace.
The UN secretary arrived in the Caribbean nation last Monday, with the aim of verifying the progress of Minjusth in the country, as well as holding meeting with government officials and members of the civil society.
With a smaller number of members, the Minjusth, replaced last year the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti, does not have military personnel and is composed of seven police units and 295 agents. (Cadenagramonte)
