By taking part in the Security Council through a video-conference from Jerusalem, he recalled the balance of more than 60 Palestinian deaths -including 11 children- due to the repression of Tel Aviv forces on the border fence in Gaza.
He also warned about the possibility that the demonstrations in that place continue in June and that the Palestinians are entitled to do so peacefully.
Recently, the UN Human Rights Council demanded an independent and impartial investigation into what happened in Gaza and called on the parties involved in the conflict to exercise maximum moderation, he noted.
Israel must measure the use of lethal force, which should only be used in extreme cases and when there is no other recourse.
Meanwhile, Hamas should not use the protests to create provocations, he added.
Mladenov recalled how the Security Council often speaks of the need to avoid war, while the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, gives priority to preventive diplomacy. All this must be put into practice.
Infrastructure in Gaza is faltering, they have almost no electricity or water services, there is a need to improve access and circulation for Palestinians, he stressed as well as supporting the reconciliation process led by Egypt.
In this regard, he asked to give priority to the development projects already approved, to implement a fast track modality to speed up its implementation and strengthen cooperation with the Palestinian Authority, Egypt and Israel.
Tel Aviv must respect the ceasefire achieved in 2014 and reduce military attacks, he said and reiterated UN support for the reconciliation efforts led by Egypt.
The UN special coordinator for the peace process in the Middle East called once again to end the occupation of Tel Aviv in Palestinian territories, and denounced that Israel's demolitions and the forced displacement of those who live there continue. (Cadenagramonte)
