When speaking at the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly, the Venezuelan president rejected the speech given on Tuesday by his US counterpart, Donald Trump, who defended the Monroe Doctrine to justify domination in Latin America.
Maduro noted that Venezuela is a victim of a series of unilateral coercive measures characterized by strong financial persecution and the impossibility of using the US dollar to make commercial transactions on the international market.
The political, economic and financial aggression against Venezuela is a retaliation for building 'an autonomous project of a model of society based on the identity and culture of our Latin American region,' the head of State underlined.
He also noted that the coercive measures respond to geostrategic interests and the pretentions by the oligarchic and imperial powers to control Venezuela's huge natural wealth.
In that regard, Maduro recalled that Venezuela holds the largest oil and the fourth major gas reserves in the world, while authorities plan to certify the world's major gold fields.
The Venezuelan president stated that his country is attacked with a media campaign aimed at building a matrix of opinion on an alleged humanitarian crisis to justify international intervention.
He stressed that the objective of magnifying Venezuela's migration flow is to divert attention from the true problems that exist in other nations in Latin America and the world.
I bring the voice of a heroic people who refuse to surrender to injustice and domination by the empires, the president stressed. (Cadenagramonte)
