In the general debate, that began on September 25th and concluded this Monday, many spoke of that siege and I believe that this is the house to deal with issues of that nature, indicated.

Once again this month the voting will be made in the Assembly on the resolution that requests the end of the blockade imposed by the United States to Cuba, and it is evident that that policy worries in the UN, affirmed.

Several Chiefs of State and Government talked particularly about the situation of Cuba and the injurious effects of the blockade to the people, recalled.

In an encounter with the credited press in the UN, Espinosa also spoke on Venezuela and Nicaragua, and the necessity to harness the contacts with those countries’ authorities.

There is a dialogue that has settled down between the United Nations and Managua, and it is encouraging, pointed out the Ecuadorian diplomat.

Also we have listened to the invitation of the government of Venezuela on the part of the high commissioner of the UN for the Human rights, Michelle Bachelet, to make a visit to that country, added.

In Espinosa’s opinion, these are positive developments to achieve that the population of those nations live with all the tranquility they deserve.

In the same way, the importance of the pacific resolution of controversies was remembered.

The President of the General Assembly also alluded to the situation in Palestine, and emphasized that the only form to find a sustainable peace in the Middle East is through dialogue in the region.

Also, she emphasized the reactions of the international community to try to palliate the financing deficit that the Agency of Nations United for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) faces after the funding cuts of the United States.

Espinosa encouraged to make more to cover the necessities of the most vulnerable countries and recalled the tragedy that happened in the Caribbean due to whips of powerful hurricanes.

In fact, she added, the threats of climate change and the sustainable development were two of the most recurrent subjects in the interventions of the high level meeting of the General Assembly.

Most of the countries supported the proposed priorities for this 73rd period of sessions: gender equity, migration and refugees, decent work, climatic action, people with disabilities, the revitalization of the UN work, and the role of youth in peace and security, indicated.

The United Nations is the house of dialogue and we must make more to listen to our different points of view, protested.

During the high level debate many events happen at the same time, but that allows that in a short period of time, the leaders of the world can interact and connect among themselves, and with the UN agencies, considered the Ecuadorian diplomat.

But we needed to listen more to the people outside, and to do more for them, asserted. In fact, Espinosa - first Latin American woman who heads the General Assembly- develops her presidency under the premise to the United Nations relevant for all the people. (Cadenagramonte)
