Trump, the Republicans and the impeachment

Photo: PLPhoto: PLHavana, Mar 20.- Republicans in the United States Congress gave a signal that accentuates the possibility of impeachment against President Donald Trump, despite the apparent strength in a party similar to a personal feud.

The Republican-majority (red) Senate voted to disapprove of its national emergency declaration after Congress rejected its request for money to build a border wall.

According to Juan Williams, a political analyst with Fox News Channel, this was a rare rebuke to the president by the Republican-controlled Senate.

They were not only moderates like the senators of Maine, Susan Collins and of Alaska, Lisa Murkowski, because among those who spoke are traditional conservatives allied to the president, such as Senators Marco Rubio (Florida), Roger Wicker (Mississippi) and Pat Toomey ( Pennsylvania), which departed from the president.

These 'deserters', among others, fear the legacy that Trump could leave to a democratic administration and could be used to introduce emergencies on issues such as climate change or firearms control, issues that arouse passions and disagreements in the country. .

An accusation against the president is a subject that now divides but, if evidences are confirmed and there is evidence, the iron curtain of Trump may be broken, according to different analyzes.

For their part, the Democrats of the House of Representatives are divided on whether to advance the process. There is fear that this will be counterproductive for the next elections, both presidential as in order to try to keep the House low and win the Senate.

Leader of the majority among the representatives, the Democrat for California, Nancy Pelosi, said that she was against the process of impeachment unless the legislators of both parties are united for that purpose, which would make a vote in the Senate plausible to dismiss to the agent

Despite the various approaches among the blue parties it is clear that if there is support from the Reds, the ruler will find it difficult to escape justice and avoid the process with a view to being dismissed.

In February 66 percent of Democrats were in favor of initiating legal action but only 6 percent of Republicans supported that action.

Everything seems to point to the investigation carried out by special prosecutor Robert Mueller on a possible conspiracy between the campaign of Trump and Russia, according to a survey conducted in December Quinnipiac.

If there are evidentiary elements, those of the red party will find it very difficult to defend the arguments that the president is a victim of 'witch hunts'.

According to polls, most independents and four out of five Democrats see Mueller's investigation as fair, which would mark the beginning of the end for Trump, when his personal feud and control of the red, mafia-like, seems to crack.

Although he claims to affirm it, the New York mogul is not the most popular Republican in history; a distortion of reality occurs, something in which the ruler turns out to be an expert.

The most recent Gallup poll showed that it has an approval rating among all Americans of only 39 percent. The analysis also highlights the fact that Trump no longer has a secure support in the red ranks.
A Quinnipiac University poll showed that 89 percent of Democrats said Trump 'committed crimes before becoming president' and only 48 percent of Republicans said that is not true.

However, the vote on the national emergency in the Senate shows a break in the support of the Reds, they no longer follow the partisan capo as lambs.

The break in the ranks of the Grand Old Party would have to add that they will defend more seats in the Senate elections in 2020 to maintain their majority, something that could put to think many on whether it is convenient to align with an unpopular president and with a foot in the bench of the accused. Williams finishes his analysis that the impeachment may not seem so divisive in a short time.

The results of the polls are somewhat difficult to prove, unless the ongoing investigation provides convincing evidence that forces the Democratic Party to act.

According to the digital newspaper Politico for Democrats, challenging the president is inevitable and impossible, something that remains to be seen if Republicans are overwhelmed by the evidence and fear of losing positions.

You do not want to divide the country, so you must think you have a case such that once you have finished presenting, there are enough people who understand that you had to do it, said the chairman of the Judicial Committee of the House of Representatives, Jerry Nadler (D- New York), which has the power to initiate a process of impeachment.

The obvious and certain thing is that the Democrats will only go forward if the public opinion turns against Trump in such a way that it is no longer politically advantageous for the Republicans to stay with him.

At least 20 Republican senators must turn to secure a conviction and without them, some Democrats warn that challenging Trump in the lower house is fruitless and could give the president a political gift before his re-election.

It is a scenario that only time will clear. The big question now is whether or not there will be an impeachment. (PL)
