ACP Group rejects the activation of Helms Burton Act, Title III

According to diplomatic sources, the text was validated at the 109th session of the Council, held in this capital, and also expresses its full support and solidarity with the Cuban people and government.

In expressing the "firm opposition to the unilateral and illegal blockade," he also deplored the activation of Title III of the Helms Burton Act and its extraterritorial effects, said a statement.

The Council of Ministers urged Washington to lift the "unjust and prolonged blockade imposed on the Cuban people," which he described as a "major obstacle to the implementation by Cuba of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development."

As a renewed sign of the bonds of friendship that unite the ACP countries with the Caribbean nation, the ministers participating in the forum also invited the entire international community to continue expressing their support and solidarity with the Cuban people for the lifting of this policy. , the statement said.

During the session, the ambassador of Cuba in Belgium, Norma Goicochea, denounced the interventionist essence of the Helms Burton Law and the extraterritorial scope of its title III.

In this regard, he said that the application of this rule constitutes "a gross violation and total disregard for international law, as well as the agreements adopted in 1996 between the European Union and previous US administrations."

The diplomat also denounced the pretension of President Donald Trump and the anti-Cuban groups in Miami to generate greater difficulties and shortcomings for the people of the island and to suffocate the national economy.

In thanking the solidarity of the 79 member states of the ACP Group, the Cuban diplomat confirmed that "despite the undoubted economic impact of these measures, the US administration will not be able to break the determination of Cubans and Cubans to defend the independence and sovereignty of our country." country'.
