Photo: PLMoscow, May 28.- The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, today concludes his visit to this country, after signing a cooperation agreement between foreign ministries and holding official talks with his Russian counterpart, Serguei Lavrov.
Rodriguez Parrilla called the day before to strongly reject the attempt to declare the Monroe Doctrine in force by the US government. It is an act of imperialist domination that belongs to another era, he said.
One should be very careful because the invocation of the Monroe Doctrine in our region, in general, was accompanied by the use of military force and the so-called 'gunboat diplomacy', recalled the Caribbean minister.
The Cuban minister expressed the solidarity of his country with the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, legitimately elected, with his constitutional government and with the civic-military unity of his people.
Cuba will support any initiative aimed at promoting respectful dialogue, based on sovereign equality, with strict adherence to the principles of international law, he said.
Similarly, Rodriguez Parrilla referred to the recent announcement by the US government to allow that on the basis of the Helms-Burton law can be established lawsuits against Cuban and foreign companies in American courts.
This is another step in the aggressive application of US laws against third countries, which constitutes a gross violation of international law and the sovereignty of all states, said the Cuban foreign minister to a question from Prensa Latina.
In addition, there has been a strong international reaction against this new instrument that toughens the blockade against Cuba, stressed the head of the island, in a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart, Serguei Lavrov, at the end of official talks in this capital.
For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister ratified the support to Cuba in its fight to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade, applied by the United States for almost 60 years against the Caribbean island.
In his visit to this nation, Rodriguez Parrilla also held a meeting with the diplomatic mission in this country and spoke with the community of Cuban residents in Russia.
Before traveling to this nation, the Cuban foreign minister met in Brussels with the High Representative of the European Union for International Security and Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini.
The Cuban minister's tour also includes a visit to China. (PL)
