In a statement released through the social network Twitter, the media platform said that in the seven weeks he has been imprisoned in Belmarsh, southeast of London, the Australian journalist has lost weight "dramatically."
The decision of the prison authorities to move him to the prison hospital speaks for itself, he said.
The text also recalls that Assange entered the British prison last April with his health quite deteriorated, as a result of the seven years he was a refugee in the Ecuadorian embassy in this capital, under conditions, he says, that were incompatible with human rights basic.
The cyber activist was arrested on April 11 by agents of Scotland Yard within the Ecuadorian diplomatic legation after the government of the South American country decided to withdraw the status of political asylee granted in 2012.
Presented before a British court, he was sentenced to 50 weeks in prison for violating the terms of a bail he granted him in 2010, in connection with an arrest warrant then circulated by Sweden, where he is being investigated for alleged sex crimes.
In addition to being required by the Swedish justice, Assange faces an extradition order issued by the US government, which wants to judge him for disseminating through the digital portal hundreds of thousands of secret files of diplomacy and the US military.
If sent to US territory, the Australian journalist would be prosecuted under the Espionage Act, and if convicted of the 17 charges against him, he could be sentenced to 175 years in prison.
This Thursday was scheduled to hold the second hearing on the request for extradition to the United States, in which as in the previous, Assange had to appear through a video conference from Belmarsh, although according to his lawyer, his health is so compromised that it is impossible to maintain a normal conversation.
So far, the British authorities have not ruled on the situation of cyber-activist, or on a possible suspension of the hearing. (PL)
