Cuba and Nigeria Sign Medical Cooperation Agreement

Photo: RHCHavana, January 2.- Cuba's Medical Services Company and the Nigerian State of Kaduna have signed an agreement that provides for young students from the African nation coming to Cuba on medical scholarships.
Once graduated, the young professionals will return home to offer their services in health institutions across Nigeria –Africa's most populated country.
The Cuban ambassador to that African nation, Carlos Trejo, attended the signing ceremony, along with the Nigerian Commissioners of Health, Education, Technological Science and the Environment. Addressing those present, Ambassador Trejo offered information on Cuba's primary health system and the country's achievements in the field of biotechnology, especially Heberprot-P, for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers. The Cuban injectable medication -- the only one of its kind in the world -- was registered in Nigeria at the end of 2017, where it is being used at health centers in Abuja, the country's capital.
Developed by the Cuban Biotechnology Industry, Heberprot-P has proven healing qualities, thus significantly reducing the risk of lower limb amputations in diabetic patients, while also improving the patients' quality of life. (RHC)
