May 24.- Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez today lamented the death of dozens of people and the damage caused by a volcanic eruption in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
In his Twitter account, the Foreign Minister expressed his deepest condolences to the people and the Government of the African nation for the loss of human life and the material damage caused by the activity of Nyiragongo, in the east of the country.
Last Saturday, in a surprising way, that mountain erupted, causing the flight of tens of thousands of people, among whom 15 deaths have been reported so far.
According to local authorities, 17 villages were affected and there are considerable material damages, mainly in the nearby city of Goma.
This Monday that town was shaken by strong earthquakes, which kept the inhabitants fearful, who began to return to their homes, according to AFP.
The DRC Government sent a delegation made up of seven ministers, including the Minister of Health, Jean-Jacques Mbungani, who will carry out a preliminary assessment of the situation, although according to the Observatory of Volcanology of Goma, uncertainty about the activity persists of the Nyiragongo.
Since January 2002 there has not been such a strong eruption of the volcano, which then caused the death of a hundred people. (Cadenagramonte)
