Havana, May 31 - The US government this year allocated 20 million dollars to promote democracy assumptions programs aimed at Cuba, confirmed the Cuba Money Project site.
The investigation reveals that the White House also requested $ 810,396,000 for the United States Agency for Global Media (USAGM), supervisor of the Cuban Broadcasting Office (OCB).
The budget document states: "USAGM will continue to meet emerging political and humanitarian challenges in countries such as Myanmar, Belarus, Hong Kong and Venezuela, as well as the historic transition of power underway in Cuba."
According to Cuba Money Project, the OCB, which runs Radio and TV Martí, has 117 employees and an annual budget of around 28 million.
Meanwhile, the former director of this Office, Jeffrey Scott Shapiro, urged the Biden administration to provide 30 million for Radio and TV Martí.
"As Cuba's economy continues to collapse and its political infrastructure weakens, it is even more necessary for the United States government to have a conduit to the Cuban people," he wrote in an article published in the Miami Herald.
Also, the Biden administration's budget request includes $ 94,043,000 for USAID's Office of Transition Initiatives, whose funds, they say, “will address opportunities and challenges in countries in crisis and help in their transition to sustainable development., peace, good governance and democracy”.
Finally, the Cuba Money Project specifies that the Government of Washington is requesting for 2022, 58 thousand 500 million for the State Department and the United States Agency for International Development, which represents an increase of 10 percent over the budget of this year.
However, the 243 punitive measures imposed on Cuba by the previous US administration remain in force, because, according to spokesmen and White House officials, the Cuban nation is not a high priority issue for his government. (Cadenagramonte)
