Bruno Rodríguez affirms that US measures against Cuba threaten safe migration

Havana, May 31.- The US measures against Cuba, including the closure of the consulate in Havana, threaten a safe, orderly and legal migration, today said Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.
Through his official Twitter account, the head of Cuban diplomacy wrote that this political decision by the United States costs human lives.
On that platform, the foreign minister recalled the impact of the closure of the consulate, which implied the suspension of the processing and granting of visas in the Cuban capital and the transfer of these procedures to third countries.
Similarly, Rodríguez highlighted the validity of the Cuban Adjustment Law, approved in 1966 in Washington in order to encourage those born on the island to leave the country illegally, endangering their lives, with the aspiration of becoming residents of the United States.
Alleged health incidents of US diplomats accredited in Cuba were used in 2017 as a justification for reducing staff by more than 60 percent and effectively closing the US consulate.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement last March recognized among the incentives for migration, in addition to the closure of diplomatic representation and the permanence of the Cuban Adjustment Law, the breach of Washington's commitment to guarantee the legal exodus of a minimum of 20 thousand Cubans per year.
In this sense, he ratified the will of the Caribbean nation to continue working to prevent irregular, unsafe and disorderly migration, and to prevent departures that endanger human life.
Likewise, he expressed his commitment to fight against acts of violence associated with this phenomenon and crimes such as human trafficking and illegal migrant smuggling. (Cadenagramonte)
