Havana, Aug 2.- President Miguel Díaz-Canel today celebrated the performance of Cuban athletes in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, on a day in which the country achieved its first gold medals.
How great you are Mijaín! Four Olympic gold medals for your country. Not a single point has marked you in # Tokio2020! How much courage, how much bravery, what great respect and admiration we feel for you! #Cuba admires you and hugs you. #HagamosloPorCuba, the president wrote to that extra-class Cuban fighter.
Minutes before, the head of state highlighted the feat performed by Luis Alberto Orta, who contributed the first golden medal for his country in that discipline, against all odds.
What a surprise he gave us, Luis Alberto Orta! You have brought us the first gold medal in # Tokio2020, after an impeccable competition, fought from start to finish. Thanks, boy, for the joy. #Cuba, like you, is unstoppable.
Díaz-Canel also congratulated the long jump athletes Juan Miguel Echevarría and Maykel Massó, for the silver and bronze medals achieved the day before despite being both injured during the match.
He also highlighted the Olympic subtitle achieved this day of competition by the gold medalist from London 2012, Leuris Pupo, in rapid shot at 25 meters.
Happy Monday, #Cuba! We enter the week with the same stamina as our athletes in # Tokio2020. We continue to build the country we want together; the president wrote on that social network. (Cadenagramonte)
